How To Use Castor Oil For Thicker Hair, Eyelashes and Eyebrows

If you dream of thicker hair, gorgeous brows, and luscious lashes, I’d love to introduce you to a natural ingredient that can help you achieve all three - castor oil!

How Castor Oil Can Help Improve The Condition And Thickness Of Hair

Castor oil is a thick, vegetable oil derived from the seeds of Ricinus communis - also known as the castor bean plant.

It’s an age-old elixir to promote stronger, thicker hair, dating back as far as ancient Egyptian times - and wow, did Cleopatra have impressive locks!

There are two types; castor oil which is golden in color and black castor oil, which is made from roasted castor seeds - giving it a darker hue.

Both are brimming with omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, vitamin E and proteins. These are all beneficial ingredients for healthy hair, eyebrows and eyelashes - they work to improve the condition of hair so it won’t break off easily.

Castor oil is also high in ricinoleic acid which helps improve blood circulation - a major reason it’s such a popular treatment for gorgeous locks.

Healthy blood flow means hair follicles receive the nutrition they need and the results are stronger strands and less breakage. Studies have shown that increased blood flow leads to a reduction in hair loss.

The omega 6 and 9 fatty acids and vitamin E also pitch in to prevent hair from falling out by strengthening the root at the scalp.

Castor oil is also antibacterial and antifungal, making it a wonderful natural treatment for scalp infections and dandruff.

How To Use Castor Oil For Thicker Hair, Eyelashes and Eyebrows

FOR HAIR

The simplest way to use castor oil for thicker hair is to put a nickel-sized amount of it in your palm, rub your hands together then distribute the oil through damp hair.

Focus on the scalp and spend five minutes massaging it in. The massage can also help stimulate hair growth as it boosts blood flow to the area...plus it’s super relaxing!

Leave the oil in as long as you like (at least 30 minutes) then wash hair as normal. I think this makes a great treatment twice a week.

Remember, a little goes a long way - you definitely don’t need to coat your hair from root to tip. You’ll only end up with a big sticky mess!

FOR EYELASHES

Castor oil is a natural alternative to expensive eyelash growth serums, so save some money and try this DIY treatment for thicker eyelashes instead.

Thoroughly clean an old mascara wand, coat it with castor oil then apply to your eyelashes as you would mascara.

Don’t be heavy-handed with the application as too much oil can get in your eyes and cause (temporary) blurry vision.

I’d recommend doing this at night, to give the oil time to soak in and do its best work!

FOR EYEBROWS

Using a cotton swab - or that clean mascara wand again - apply a small amount of castor oil to your makeup-free eyebrows. Then very gently massage the oil into the area.

Again, I’d recommend incorporating this into your nightly regime to maximize the oil’s conditioning benefits while you sleep.

Wash the oil off as part of your usual cleansing routine in the morning.

DON’T FORGET!

Before applying castor oil to your scalp, eyebrows or eyelashes do a patch test first by applying a little castor oil to the inside of your elbow.

I’d also recommend choosing a high quality, pure organic castor oil, especially for the eyelash treatment.
